More than 160 drag racers hit the Sonoma Raceway drag strip on Wednesday, Sept. 28, for the Wednesday Night Drags races with Novato residents taking home wins in four of the seven race classes.

Novato's Doug Love continued his winning ways in the Motorcycle class aboard his 2001 Bonnneville, while Joe Piazza drove his 1950 Chevy to a win in Comp Rod. Meanwhile, John Lemos (2005 Camry) and Brad Bowen (1994 Mustang) each took home wins in the Sport Street and Street classes respectively.

Other winners from Wednesday Night Drags racing action include American Canyon's Steve Caldwell in Jackpot (1972 Ventura), Glen Ellen's Larry Philpot in Gear Jammer (2006 WRx) and Santa Rosa's Victor Valencia in the high school division (1996 328i).

The Wednesday Night Drags program returns to the quarter-mile drag strip next Wednesday, Oct. 5.  Practice runs begin at 4 p.m. with racing spanning throughout the evening until 9 p.m.  Cost is $25 for competitors or $15 for students with their high school identification card, and $10 spectators. Parking is free.
