Sonoma Raceway will host a slate of Wednesday Night Drags and Sonoma Drift events for 2021 beginning March 17. Racing heats up for 25 evenings of competition on the Sonoma Valley drag strip and throughout the road course and paddock, running most Wednesdays through Nov. 10.

The raceway’s popular Wednesday Night Drags program enters its 33rd season. The amateur drag racing competition gives anyone with a driver license and car that passes a simple technical inspection a chance to race down the quarter-mile drag strip. For 32 years, the popular Wednesday Night Drags program has helped local drivers fulfill their need for speed in a safe, legal and controlled environment. Drag racing runs from 4-10 p.m. and cost is $25 to race or $15 for current high school students.

Drifting is a stylized form of on track driving which focuses on a car being sideways and concentrating on the angle of the vehicle, showmanship and control taken through a set course, rather than who finishes first. Each Sonoma Drift event is limited to 70 participants per week and usually sells out. Cost is $40 to preregister and $10 entry for one crewmember. Sonoma Drift attracts participants from throughout the Bay Area and will feature a series of different track layouts throughout each evening, which will showcase both single car and tandem drifting.

Drifting will kick-off from 4-6 p.m. on the road course and will conclude behind the main grandstand from 7-10 p.m. There is also a skid pad open to beginners at the Turn 7 Runoff. Sonoma Drift is also scheduled to host Winter Jam, Dec. 18-19, a drifting festival where professional and local drifters battle in competitions along with driving side by side for pure fun.

Due to precautions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, and to ensure the safety of the participants and the local communities, access to the raceway will be limited to competitors and crew (limit one crewmember per vehicle) and raceway personnel. Spectators will not be permitted. All racers must follow all raceway COVID-19 protocols while onsite, including social distancing, wearing a mask and frequent hand washing. Failure to adhere to raceway COVID protocols will lead to removal from the property.
