Sonoma Raceway team members from all departments started their Monday morning off right by volunteering at the Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa. Giving a combined total of 75 hours of their time, the group worked packaging produce for patrons who come to pick up fresh, healthy food for their families.

The group worked in teams to sort, weigh and bundle the produce, and ended up packaging 13,205 pounds of produce which will provide over 11,000 meals for those in need.

Redwood Empire Food Bank is the largest hunger relief organization in the area with partner organizations in five counties including Sonoma. With initiatives spanning hunger solutions for children and seniors, the food bank also offers neighborhood food and nutrition education. In general, the efforts of volunteers donating their time at the food bank account for the hours of 45 full time staff members.

In addition to the work hours, the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities presented Redwood Empire Food Bank with a $13,500 check as part of their annual grant program. Donations raised from fans purchasing experiences and items at events create a fund from which grants are given to Sonoma County non-profits helping children and families in need.
