As we approach NASCAR's only weekend in California for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series face-off, Team Toyota is gunning for its 10th win of the season. Their top drivers, Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell, both have three wins and are eager to make it four.
Team Toyota has a history of success in Wine Country, with Martin Truex Jr., who was aiming to tie with Jeff Gordon for the all-time wins record in Sonoma at five. Truex had won in Sonoma three out of the past six years and was eager to push his road course skills to the max to secure his fifth win before he retired from racing full-time. All-time, Toyota Racing has won seven total NASCAR races at Sonoma Raceway
With the season starting strong in the beginning of the year with Christopher Bell winning three races in a row in Atlanta, COTA, and Phoenix, Team Toyota is hungry to keep racking up the wins. Toyota also finished 2nd in Mexico City, the road course leading up to the Toyota/Save Mart 350, when Christopher Bell had an astounding drive going from 31st position to finishing 2nd.
Leading up to the July 11-13 NASCAR weekend, Christopher Bell came into the Bay Area market for some early media hits. "Sonoma Raceway has the most elevation change that we see on our NASCAR Cup Series schedule," said Bell in an interview, "Sonoma Raceway is proven time and time again to provide some of the most action that we see on our Cup Series schedule."
On top of the famous NASCAR Cup series race on Sunday, July 13, the weekend also features the 3rd ever Xfinity Series race at Sonoma with the Pit Boss/FoodMaxx 250 on Saturday, July 12 and the ARCA Menards Series West General Tire 200 race on Friday, July 11. These races will feature up-and-coming drivers competing to advance to the Cup Series alongside the pros.
With unpredictable, action-packed racing, NASCAR weekend at Sonoma is one event you don't want to miss.
