Historic Race Cars Take Center Stage on the Sonoma Plaza, June 2
SONOMA, Calif. (May 25, 2018) - Sonoma Raceway and the Sonoma chapter of Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) will celebrate vintage cars, wine and fine food at the Historic Race Car Festival on the Sonoma Plaza, Saturday, June 2.
This popular charity event, which follows Saturday's vintage car racing at the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival at Sonoma Raceway, benefits the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation and SCC, the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway. The Sonoma chapter of SCC has distributed more than $6 million to non-profit youth organizations in Sonoma County since 2001.
Locals and race fans alike are invited to enjoy tastings from several local restaurants, wineries and breweries, as well as an up-close look at more than 30 historic race cars on display. The featured cars will include local entries, as well as a collection of race cars competing at the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, June 1-3, at Sonoma Raceway.
The evening will feature samplings from a variety of local restaurants including Bert's Desserts, Jolly Pig BBQ, Mary's Pizza Shack, Smashmallow, Maya Restaurant, Ramekins Culinary School, Levy Restaurants, Trader Jim's and Mr. Pops.
Local wineries and breweries will serve specialty wines and drinks to complement the food, including Jacuzzi Winery, Cline Cellars, Foyt Wines, Viansa Sonoma, Sonoma Springs Brewery, La Chertosa Wines, Jeff Cohn Cellars, Highway 12 Vineyards & Winery, Jeff Cohn Cellars and Eric Ross Winery.
The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with a parade of more than 30 historic racecars departing under a full CHP escort from Sonoma Raceway. The parade of cars will motor along Highway 121 and Highway 12 before arriving at the scenic Sonoma Plaza. They will park in front of Sonoma City Hall on display for guests to enjoy. Attendees can also vote for their favorite car in two different categories: Best Local Historic Car and Featured Historic Race Car.
