SONOMA, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2017) - The Sonoma chapter of Speedway Children's Charities (SCC) hosted its 4th annual Laps for Charity fundraising event at Sonoma Raceway on Saturday, Jan. 21, generating $19,000 for the raceway's charitable arm.

Nearly 130 drivers of all experience levels attended the sold-out event and enjoyed a chance to pilot their own car for three lead-follow laps around the 2.52-mile, 12-turn road course. Additionally, participants received a pre-lap safety briefing with professional drivers and a chance to learn about the IndyCar and NASCAR courses.

A wide variety of vehicles took to the track, ranging from a 2017 Jaguar F-Type, 1963 Austin Healey 3000 BJ7 to a Ford Explorer, all of which were inspected by Sonoma Raceway's Tech Crew to review gas levels, tire pressures, brake lights, seatbelts and mufflers. After driving on track, participants enjoyed a ride with a professional driver for a "hot lap" around the course.

All proceeds from this event benefit kids in need through Sonoma County youth organizations. Speedway Children's Charities has distributed more than $5.5 million to Sonoma County youth groups since 2001.
