$200,000 will be gifted this month to local Sonoma non-profits as part of Speedway Children’s Charities Sonoma Chapter’s annual grant program. 39 local organizations were chosen from the many applicants to receive funds, and this year’s financial awards will help fund critical needs programs that provide resources for shelter, food, medical and dental care, mental health, education and more.

“Our mission has always been to support children and families in need here in Sonoma County,” said Director of Speedway Children’s Charities Sonoma, Courtney Kiser. “We’re incredibly proud to support the hard work these non-profits do for our community.”

Local enthusiasts and fans from all over the country help contribute to SCC by enjoying special events produced during the NASCAR and NHRA events, as well as attending regional events such as CSRG Laps for Charity and Ferrari Challenge. One of the most unique ways to contribute is through the “Adopt-a-Sheep” program where one of the sheep grazing on the hillsides on the Sonoma Raceway property can be virtually adopted.

Each year, Speedway Children’s Charities Sonoma offers the opportunity for local organizations to apply for grants to support their programs. Applicants must be a non-profit in Sonoma County that directly supports the needs of children and families. Applications are usually submitted in July for distribution in November.

Currently, SCC is looking for new, engaged board members for the 2023 SCC Sonoma Board of Trustees who will represent SCC Sonoma and its mission to serve children and families in critical need in Sonoma. Nominations can be for oneself or other individuals, and nominees must reside or be employed within Sonoma County. Deadline to apply is Jan. 2, 2023, and interested applicants can contact Courtney Kiser at [email protected]

SCC’s next event will be Cars & Cocoa December 10, and will include Laps for Charity, a car show, Schell-Vista firetruck rides for kids, LEGO building, and more. For more information on SCC Sonoma, including how you can adopt a Sonoma Raceway sheep as a holiday gift, visit www.speedwaycharities.org.
