Racers attending the 4th of July Summit ET bracket races in Sonoma were pleased to find great track conditions with temperatures in the low 80-degree range throughout the day.

The day’s big  winners included Artie Paiva in Super Pro, Dennis Paz (Pro ET), Brian Kam (Sportsman) and Randy Monte (Motorcycle) in the Summit ET classes

Joining the list of winners were Will Harrison (Top Comp), Doug Bracey (Top Sportsman), Kenny Moorhead (Pro Sportsman), Chad Axford (Super Comp), Jason Brink (Super Gas), Mickey Curry (Pro Street), Mike Mossi (B/Gas), Chris Rea (C/Gas), Jack Nilson (D/Gas), Ron Nickels (E/Gas) and Scott Sterley in Trophy

The Super Pro final pitted the ‘70 Chevy Camaros of Artie Paiva of Sacramento and Tim Koehler from Lodi. Both drivers nailed the tree with perfect .000 reaction times that saw Paiva getting the win with a 9,403 ET (9.39 dial in) at 141.91 mph to Koehler's too quick 9.322 (9.34) 146.07. Steve Casner of Sheridan took his dragster into the semi's before losing to eventual winner Paiva.

Pro ET started off with a field of 56 entries. Entering into the semi finals were Fred Scheuing's ‘55 Chevy from Sonoma, North Highlands’ Danny Cole in a ‘69 Camaro, Wednesday Night Drags regular Willie Woo and his Moraga based ‘84 Corvette and Stockton's Dennis Paz who won the Super Stock class at the just held Lucas Oil Series Divisional at Top Gun Raceway in Fallon, Nev.

Cole eliminated Scheuing which then saw Paz in his ‘65 El Camino getting around Woo and the final round meeting with Cole. Paz put up a .032 RT which Cole almost equaled with a .034 light that resulted in a double breakout and the win to Paz 11.456 (11.47) 114.76 to Cole's further under 11.406 (11.42) 116.18

Pacifica's Brian Kam took his ‘98 Camaro the distance in Sportsman, dropping defending track champ Maryo Mendez of San Jose "Sears Auto Center" backed ‘69 Ford Torino in the final. Mendez with better on the tree, a .013 light to Kam's .048 but was unable to match his 17.23 dial in and slowed to a 17.288 at 72.60. Kam posted a winning 12.765 (12.75) at 103.81 to claim his first ever Sportsman class win. Concord's Robert Ward in a ‘67 Dodge Charger was good enough to earn semi final money.

In Motorcycle, just three riders remained coming into the semi finals. Vallejo's Terry Hill on board a ‘91 Harley Sportster eliminated the ‘02 Kawasaki of San Jose's Trace St. Germain, which gave Petaluma's Randy Monte American Muscle ‘96 Buell a single and a berth in the final.

Monte took the early lead with a .050 RT to Hill's tardy .116 RT then held on with a winning 10.835 (10.55) 124.93 forcing Hill into a break out with a 9.947 (10.09) 120.39
