Raceway to Preview FIA WTCC

United States Debut at State Capitol

Chevrolet driver Yvan Muller, three-time and defending champion of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, will preview the upcoming WTCC event in Sonoma, Sept. 21-23. This will mark the WTCC's first-ever race on American soil. A Chevrolet Cruze showcar will also be on display at the State Capitol building in Sacramento.

Monday, July 16, 11:30 a.m.

West Steps of the Capitol, near the intersection of 10th and L Streets, Sacramento.

  • Steve Page, Raceway president & general manager
  • Yvan Muller (Chevrolet Cruise), three-time and reigning FIA WTCC Champion
  • Eric Nève, Manager Motorsport, Chevrolet Europe

The WTCC is one of the few FIA World Championships (alongside Formula One and World Rally Championship) featuring entries from Ford, Chevrolet, SEAT and BMW. The series boasts a 12-stop schedule in 2012, including events in Brazil, China, Japan, Morocco and Macau. The Sonoma event marks the series’ first-ever event in North America. Race weekends feature qualifying on Saturday and two 30-minute main events on Sunday. The abbreviated race length guarantees the fender-banging style of competition for which the series is known.

Race fans are invited to attend the press conference and welcome the series to Northern California.

Media members can chat with Muller and representatives from the series and learn more about the series’ debut in September.  A photo opportunity with the Chevrolet Cruze racecar and WTCC b-roll will also be available.
