Sonoma Raceway chatted with defending Verizon IndyCar champion Will Power, driver of the #1 Verizon Chevrolet for the Team Penske entry, about the upcoming Verizon IndyCar series season and racing in Sonoma. Here's what he had to say:

Sonoma Raceway: How do you feel about the double points scoring system for the finale here at Sonoma?

Will Power: I think that the double points will make it very interesting and exciting for the finale, much like Fontana was last year. I definitely consider it one of my best racetracks. I've had a lot of highs and a few lows there, but it is going to provide a great venue for the final race of the season.

SR: Do you have a memorable moment at Sonoma Raceway?

Power: Unfortunately I do have a memorable moment at Sonoma. In 2009 I was involved in a pretty serious accident there. It broke my back in four places and was in the hospital in Santa Rosa for quite a while. But Roger Penske told me not to worry about anything, just focus on getting better. The next year I had a full season at Team Penske and came back to win the race, so the rest is history.

SR: Thoughts on the new aero kit?

Power: The new Chevrolet aero kits provide massive downforce and the cars are just stuck right into the track. It really has a nice balance between downforce and drag, and the speeds we are running are impressive.

SR: From a race fans perspective, what makes racing at Sonoma so special?

Power: It's just fantastic racetrack with the way it uses the natural landscape. It's very technical with lots of elevation changes. A technical racetrack provides more opportunity for driver error, which helps promote great racing with the ability to pass. It's just a lot of fun for both the drivers and the fans.
