High-speed drifting will take center stage at Sonoma Raceway this weekend with Sonoma Drift's Winter Jam, Dec. 20-21.

The Winter Jam Series Championship event, which is hosted by Sonoma Drift, will take place at five different locations around the facility, including two courses in the main paddock and courses at Turn 7, Turns 2-4 and Turn 11 of the 12-turn road course.

More than 130 drivers have registered for this weekend's drifting event, which concludes the four-event Sonoma Drift series for 2014. Highlights of the weekend include Saturday's Team Tandem competition, where multiple drivers drift side-by-side throughout the course coming mere inches away from the wall and one another. Sunday features the fan-favorite Winter Jam Competition, which will crown the 2014 Winter Jam Champion.

The weekend will include several professional drifters, including local drivers Matt Field (San Jose), Ryan Kado (Sacramento), and Jeff Wolfson (San Jose). These professionals will go toe-to-toe throughout the weekend with local amateur drifters looking to compete at the next level.

Drifting differs from traditional racing as the drivers work to control their high-horsepower car while it slides sideways at high speed.  Drivers are judged on execution and style rather than who finishes the course fastest.

Drifting action gets under way each day at 10 a.m. Spectator admission is $10 per day; kids 12 and under are admitted FREE. For more information, visit racesonoma.com/sonomadrift or call 800-870-RACE (7223).
