BloodSource and Sonoma Raceway will team up to save lives this year, as the raceway welcomes the California-based not-for-profit as its newest official sponsor.

Founded in 1948, BloodSource supplies nearly every drop of blood used in more than 40 hospitals in over 30 counties - from Merced to the Oregon border, from Sonoma County to Lake Tahoe.  A community-based organization, BloodSource focuses its efforts on blood donor recruitment, collection, blood-product manufacturing, transfusion medicine, and Be the Match bone marrow recruitment and registration.

To aid in those efforts, BloodSource will collaborate with the raceway on a number of exciting new initiatives for 2014, including the 14th annual High-Speed Blood Drive on Monday, May 5. This unique blood drive invites community members to enjoy a "hot lap" around the 12-turn road course before donating blood.

In addition, BloodSource will host off-site, racing-themed blood drives featuring a NASCAR show car, the Sonoma Raceway Girls and FREE Friday or Saturday NASCAR tickets for donors. For more information on upcoming BloodSource events, visit

BloodSource will also educate race fans about the importance of blood donation during the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event, June 20-22, with a display in the main paddock featuring tours of a BloodSource bloodmobile.

"BloodSource is proud to partner with Sonoma Raceway," said Katherine Elorduy, BloodSource communications director. "We look forward to working with fans and supporters to ensure a safe and plentiful blood supply is available to all in need."
