SONOMA, Calif. (March 6, 2017) - In preparation for the 2017 motor-racing season, Sonoma Raceway has announced two additions to its Marketing and Media and Community Relations team.

Chelsea Lazzari has been named Coordinator, Media and Community Relations, and will work with the Media and Community Relations department to expand awareness and media coverage of Sonoma Raceway and its major events, as well as help with community events.  Lazzari will also support the day-to-day operations of the raceway's charitable arm, Speedway Children's Charities.

Before joining the raceway full time, Lazzari worked as the media relations intern at Sonoma Raceway for the 2016 race season. She also worked as the public relations intern at Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand, updating social media platforms for the park's dog shelter, implementing new visitor introduction routine for the park's employees and helping with the weekly sponsor and adoption newsletter. Lazzari received her B.S. in Journalism and Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations from the University of Oregon. She currently resides in Sonoma.

San Francisco's Alex Michel has been hired as the raceway's Marketing Coordinator. He will support day-to-day operations of the Marketing Department in the planning, promotion and execution of events, including the NASCAR, NHRA and INDYCAR Series race weekends. Michel will also oversee the Sonoma Raceway Kids Club program and develop content for the Fan Zone platform. Michel worked at Sonoma Raceway's major events throughout the 2016 race season and, prior to his work at the raceway, supported numerous vehicle manufacturers with events and vehicle launches. Michel will graduate from San Francisco State University in spring 2017 with a B.S. in Marketing.

Both Lazzari and Michel report to Sonoma Raceway's Vice President of Communications and Marketing Diana Brennan. Lazzari will work with Jenifer Imbimbo, director or media and community relations, while Michel will support members of the marketing department, including Courtney Kiser, director of marketing.

The Sonoma Raceway motor-racing season kicks off with the Toyota/Save Mart 350 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series weekend, June 23-25. In addition, the major event season will feature the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, July 28-30, and the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma Verizon IndyCar® Series championship weekend, Sept. 15-17.
