The worlds of vintage racing and charitable giving will come together for a weekend of fun in wine country during the 12th Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG) Charity Challenge at Sonoma Raceway, Oct. 3-4.

Nearly 250 vintage race cars will hit the track for a full weekend of racing on the 12-turn road course. The event will feature road-racing cars from Formula 1 to Formula Junior, prototype and production sports cars from marques such as Maserati, Lotus, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Porsche and Corvette principally from the '50s, '60s and  '70s.

Nine race groups will be featured in qualifying and qualifying races on Saturday and main events on Sunday, and all proceeds from the weekend benefit Sonoma County youth groups through Speedway Children's Charities (SCC), the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway. CSRG has generously contributed more than $700,000 to SCC since 2004.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate and are $25 each day or $40 for a two-day pass. This is intended to be a family event, and students of all ages as well as military and veterans are admitted free with appropriate identification and parking is free.

To join in the charitable fun, race fans can enjoy an unforgettable ride around the road course on Saturday and Sunday. For a $75-$500 donation, depending upon the car chosen, fans can take a thrilling, three-lap ride around the road course in one of the participating race cars, or choose from one of the road going exotics that will be there. Riders must be at least 16 years old, be in good health and wear a long sleeve shirt and pants in order to ride.

Last year's charity rides featured everything from Shadows to a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO. The Charity Track Rides will be midday on both days and always sell out quickly. Sign-ups begin at 9 a.m. Pace car rides and checkered flag waving opportunities are also available.

The race weekend will also feature a charity raffle with all proceeds benefiting SCC.  Raffle tickets are: $10 each; $25 for 3; and $50 for a 'stretch.' Prizes include gifts cards and certificates to wine country restaurants, hotels, golf resorts and spas. Raffle tickets can be purchased in the garages, adjacent to the Panasonic Technology Center.
