Will Power Tops Second Day of INDYCAR Testing at Infineon Raceway
Team Penske’s Will Power posted the quickest time on Sunday, as six IZOD IndyCar® Series drivers completed a two-day pre-season test at Infineon Raceway. Veteran Formula One racer Rubens Barrichello also took part in the test session.

Power posted a lap of 1 minute, 16.98 seconds over the 12-turn, 2.303-mile road course.  The time is just a half-second slower than Dario Franchitti’s outright series lap record at Infineon Raceway, set in 2010.

Power was followed by teammate Ryan Briscoe (1:17.02), who was fastest on Saturday; EJ Viso (KV Racing Technology, 1:17.36); Rubens Barrichello (1:17.88); Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport, 1:17.89); and Tony Kanaan (KV Racing Technology, 1:17.91).

“It’s still the early days for this car as far as development goes, but we’re already knocking of the door of being quicker than our pole time from last year,” said Power, the two-time defending Sonoma champion.  “It’s going to be a lot of fun and good racing around here.”

Sausalito’s JR Hildebrand also participated in the two-day test session (1:17.97, Panther Racing). Hildebrand got his start at the then-Jim Russell Racing Drivers School, which is based at Infineon Raceway.

“I think all of us right now are just generally trying to sort things out,” said Hildebrand. “There are a ton of things that are new on the car from the chassis standpoint, the engine standpoint, brakes and we’re trying to creep up on those things and figure them out.”

Infineon Raceway will host the Indy® Grand Prix of Sonoma, Aug. 24-26.  The weekend will also feature the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge and the Formula Car Championship.  For more information or to purchase tickets, call 800-870-RACE (7223) or visit www.infineonraceway.com/indycar.

Ryan Briscoe Tops Charts at INDYCAR Test at Infineon Raceway
Ryan Briscoe led the field on Saturday as five IZOD IndyCar® Series drivers completed a full day of pre-season testing at Infineon Raceway. Veteran Formula One driver, Rubens Barrichello, also took park in the test session on behalf of KV Racing Technology.

Team Penske’s Briscoe posted a time of 1 minute, 17.49 seconds over the 12-turn, 2.303-mile road course, which was attended by nearly 1,500 fans. It was the highest-attended test session in raceway history.

Briscoe was followed by teammate Will Power (1:17.83); Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport, 1:18.43); EJ Viso (KV Racing Technology, 1:18.50); JR Hildebrand (Panther Racing, 1:18.73) and Barrichello (1:18.91).

“It’s great to see so much interest for the new car and INDYCAR and it’s going to be a lot of fun and good racing around here,” said Power, the two-time defending Sonoma champion. “I think people can expect a good race here (in August).”

Barrichello, who is close to finalizing a deal with KV Racing Technology, enjoyed his first test on the twists and turns of Infineon Raceway.

“We had a lot of fun today learning a different circuit,” Barrichello said. “Physically this track is very demanding with a lot of medium and high speed corners. The tires are OK, but I need to get used to things. Right now I’m just learning the car and the circuit.”

The two-day test continues on Sunday with the addition of Tony Kanaan for KV Racing Technology. He will replace Barrichello in the No. 11 car for KV Racing Technology in the afternoon session.
