New Car, New Engine, New Era of INDYCAR Racing

The 2012 season will usher in a new era of INDYCAR racing with a new chassis and new engine manufacturers, and that means a whole new brand of open-wheel excitement at the GoPro Indy® Grand Prix of Sonoma, Aug. 24-26.

The IZOD IndyCar Series will unveil brand new cars, featuring new Dallara chassis and dynamic body work, as well as engines provided by Honda, Lotus and Chevrolet, during the 2012 season.  It’s the first time the series has featured multiple engine manufacturers since 2005.

“It’s an exciting time in INDYCAR to be able to develop these cars and engines, and now the manufacturer competition that we have really makes it that much more interesting and competitive,” said Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay.

These new variables, combined with the raceway’s newly configured 12-turn, 2.31-mile road course, are sure to make it anyone’s race when the series returns to Northern California in August. Will Power became the series’ first repeat winner in Sonoma when he claimed his second consecutive victory in 2011, leading a dominating 1-2-3 finish for Penske racing, but favorites like Dario Franchitti, Helio Castroneves and Scott Dixon are sure to be thirsty for a return to the Wine Country Winner’s Circle.

INDYCAR will bring its latest racing technology to Sonoma, Aug. 24-26, so be sure to get your Total Access package, which includes a Sunday reserved ticket, Garage/Pit/Pre-Race pass as well as a Q&A and Tech Talk with IZOD IndyCar Series stars Tony Kanaan and Rubens Barichello, all for $99!
