Infineon Raceway Brings Drag Racing to the Sebastiani Theatre
Special Showing Benefits Speedway Children’s Charities and the Sebastiani Theatre Foundation
Infineon Raceway will bring drag racing to the heart of downtown Sonoma on Saturday, July 30, with a special screening of the classic drag-racing movie Heart Like a Wheel at the Sebastiani Theatre.
The evening, which benefits the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities and the Sebastiani Theatre Foundation, will be highlighted by a special one-night-only showing of the movie, as well as a wine and cheese reception and question-and-answer session with drag racing legends Shirley Muldowney and “Big Daddy” Don Garlits.
Muldowney and Garlits will be in Sonoma as part of the FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals event at Infineon Raceway, July 29-31.
Heart Like a Wheel is a 1983 biographical film based on Muldowney’s life and her evolution into the top tier of NHRA drag racing in the 1960s. The film, which garnered Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations, stars Bonnie Bedelia and Beau Bridges.
The evening will begin with the reception at 6 p.m. followed by the movie at 6:30 p.m. and Q&A at 8:30 p.m. A limited-edition Heart Like a Wheel poster signed by Muldowney will also be available for $10 with all proceeds benefitting the two non-profit organizations.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased by calling 800-870-RACE (7223). Tickets are also available at the Sebastiani Theatre (sebastianitheatre.com or 707- 996-9756) in downtown Sonoma.
