Race fans will be treated to a special delivery of the green flag at the FIA World Touring Car Championship on Sunday, Sept. 23, courtesy of the GoPro Bomb Squad.

The GoPro Bomb Squad, which consists of professional skydivers Neil Amonson, Marshall Miller and Jesse Hall, is the official skydiving team of GoPro.  The trio will leap out of a helicopter at 4,000 feet and make their way down to the raceway in their revolutionary wingsuits (goprobombsquad.com). These wingsuits enable the squad to accelerate forward at more than 90 mph and simulate the look and feel of human flight.

The squad’s performance, which begins 4,000 feet above the raceway in a helicopter, will culminate pre-event ceremonies for the WTCC’s first-ever visit to the United States. The series races in such exotic locales as Italy, Brazil, China and Macau, but has never competed in North America.

The divers will pull their parachutes after approximately 20 seconds of free falling, leaving a trail of smoke to aid race fans in spotting them 2,000 feet above the raceway. Amonson, Miller and Hall have a combined 20 years of experience, and completed a similar stunt prior to the GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma INDYCAR event last month.

Once they touch down, the green flag will be delivered and the first of two 13-lap sprint races for the WTCC will begin.

In addition to the WTCC, race fans will be treated to the Auto GP Championship, Maserati Trofeo World Series and United States Touring Car Championship during the race weekend. For ticket information, visit racesonoma.com/wtcc or call 800-870-7223.
