Sonoma Raceway and Friedman's Home Improvement have teamed up for the 2014 race season as the Sonoma County-based business will become an official raceway sponsor and founding partner of the raceway's new youth-focused initiatives.

Friedman's Home Improvement, the largest locally-owned home improvement retailer in Sonoma and Mendocino counties, will be the Official Home Improvement Retailer of Sonoma Raceway, as well as an Official Sponsor of the raceway's Youth Education Program.

Friedman's was founded in 1946 in Petaluma as a partnership between Benny and Joseph Friedman. The original site was a junk yard that also carried surplus materials and used furniture. Through their hard work, the men grew the business by taking care of customers one at a time, watching costs and reinvesting their profits back into the company.

A key element of Friedman's sponsorship will be to partner with the raceway on its new Youth Education Program, which focuses on educating students about the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics as it relates to raceway events and business. As part of the STEM-focused program, the raceway and Friedman's have worked with Sonoma-based Kid Scoop News to create a unique gravity-powered car challenge with local schools. The finals rounds of the gravity-powered car challenge will take place on Saturday, June 21, of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cups Series weekend.

The one-year agreement also includes a presence at all raceway major events, including the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the NHRA Sonoma Nationals NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma Verizon IndyCar® Series and FIA World Touring Car Championship. The contract also includes a corporate track day, signage and advertising.

Three generations of Friedman's now celebrate over 65 years of success. Friedman's differentiates itself by providing unique and locally relevant products and national brands for the do-it-yourselfer, avid gardener and professional contractor at the lowest prices.
