Daytona 500 Winner Matt Kenseth Enjoys Victory Tour Through San Francisco
Daytona 500 champion Matt Kenseth celebrated his victory with a true taste of Northern California on Thursday, complete with Dungeness crab, world-class Ghirardelli chocolates and a bottle of Sonoma Valley wine.
Kenseth (No. 17 Best Buy Ford) claimed his second victory in the Great American Race on Monday, and arrived in the Bay Area just three days later for a San Francisco Victory Tour onboard a motorized cable car led by a California Highway Patrol escort.
The appearance also marked the Official Countdown to the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend at Infineon Raceway, June 22-24. Race day is just 115 days away.
Kenseth enjoyed his tour of San Francisco, crossing the historic Golden Gate Bridge and visiting Grotto #9 at Fisherman’s Wharf, including the chance to crack a Dungeness crab under the guidance of co-owner Anthony Geraldi. This marked Kenseth’s second Victory Tour in San Francisco, as he also celebrated in the Bay Area after his win in 2009.
The tour concluded at Ghirardelli Square where Kenseth created his own ‘Sundae, Sundae, Sundae’ at the Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop, complete with marshmallow sauce, whipped cream and nuts.
Kenseth closed his visit with a fan rally and press conference, where he greeted race fans and the Northern California media. Ghirardelli Chocolate Company Vice President of Research and Development, Steve Genzoli, presented Kenseth with a basket of Ghirardelli chocolates.
“Winning the Daytona 500 is a huge honor, and it’s such an honor to be here,” said Kenseth. “Today was a lot of fun, and I really appreciate all the fans who came out.”
Raceway President Steve Page also presented Kenseth with a commemorative magnum of Sonoma Valley wine.
More than 150 fans came out despite rainy conditions to celebrate with Kenseth, including a select group who received VIP access to the fan rally after purchasing the all-new Total Access package for the Toyota/Save Mart 350. This new package includes a Sunday reserved seat in the Turn 2 Earnhardt Terrace and a Pre-Race Pit & Track Pass for just $145.
“This is an incredibly memorable day, and I feel so blessed to share this day with Matt,” said Roseville’s Katie Richwalski, who attended the event with her husband, Jerry. “We’re long-time fans of his, and this was such an incredible experience.”
